Updated: 2024-06-23
Jaipur: Expensive laboratory equipment used for analysing samples of patients were damaged after fire erupted in the biochemistry laboratory at Mahila Chikitsalaya on Saturday. Lab reports and samples collected from the patients have also been burnt.
The lab is situated at the first floor of the hospital. It caught fire at 4am.
Due to the fire, the hospital had to redirect samples to SMS Hospital for testing.
A hospital official said, “Since machines used for testing antibodies, hormones, liver function, kidney function and other tests, which are done as routine, have burnt down, the hospital has taken alternative measures.”
The hospital is sending samples to SMS Hospital for tests so that treatment of patients is not disrupted.
Deputy commissioner for fire, Yugantar Sharma, said, “The fire might have triggered from sparking in air conditioner but more investigation is needed.”
He said that fire fighters rushed to the spot and took the situation under control. The fire fighters made use of the fire safety equipment installed in the hospital.
Sharma said, “The fire safety equipment was available at the hospital. But, we need to check if the hospital has fire NoC.” At the time of fire, two lab technicians were present who were on the night duty. More than 50 patients were shifted to safer places, sources said.
