KOLKATA: A massive fire engulfed a vest manufacturing unit and warehouse located in Kolkata’s Dumdum area on Jessore Road on Friday morning.
Police reported that the blaze started at around 3am, but thankfully, no injuries were reported.
A senior officer stated that at least 20 fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the flames, which are believed to have originated from an adjacent ice cream factory.
The firefighters faced a daunting task, battling the flames for nearly four hours before successfully bringing the situation under control. Local residents also joined forces with the firefighters in their efforts.
“The presence of inflammable materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. There were reports of a few explosions from inside. Our firefighters are working to contain it,” the officer said.
The area, which houses numerous warehouses and small manufacturing units, presented additional challenges for the firefighters as they worked tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading further.
As a safety precaution, the power supply in the vicinity has been disconnected, while thick black smoke continues to engulf the entire area.
