Major fire breaks out at fancy shop godown in Hosur

Krishnagiri: A major fire broke out at godown in Hosur city here on Wednesday. Decorative and gift items worth several lakhs were gutted in the incident.
Police said the fire broke out at a fancy shop’s godown that was owned by Sudhagar, 48, on MG Road. He had stored the goods at the godown that was located right next to the shop.
Around 9am on Wednesday, workers at the shop noticed thick smoke emanating from the godown. They immediately rushed out of the shop and alerted the fire and rescue services station. Fire personnel with the Hosur station managed to extinguish the flames after a three-hour long struggle.
A firefighter said the shop was in an old building and the wires must have been unfit to handle the electrical voltage.
The Hosur police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Initial findings indicate the fire was caused by a short circuit. Further probe is on.
