3 hospitalised as fire at 12-storey building in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi brought under control

A fire at a multi-storey building in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi has been brought under control. The Fire Service and Civil Defence says three people with injuries have been rescued from the scene.
The fire started at House No. 18, a 12-storey residential building next to the Surovi School, on Road No. 5 around 10:25am on Wednesday, according to the Fire Service Control Room. The operator on duty at the control room says the fire started on the seventh floor of the building.
Six units from the Fire Service were dispatched to the scene and began firefighting efforts around 10:40am.
After a half-hour’s effort they managed to tame the flames around 11:17am.
Md Shahjahan Sikder, spokesman for the Fire Service, said:
“Three people with injuries who were trapped in the building have been rescued and sent to a hospital.”
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, he said.
