Fire in 4th floor flat, nobody hurt
Updated: 2024-09-01
New Delhi: A fire erupted in a flat on the fourth floor of a multistorey building in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri on Saturday morning. The blaze which broke out at 8.10am, caused extensive damage to household items. However, no casualties were reported.
Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officers said that they received an emergency call at 8.10am and promptly dispatched nine fire tenders and 54 firefighters to the scene. The multi-storey building, which consists of about 10 floors, with each floor housing 3-4 flats, posed significant challenges for the fire crew. The affected fourth floor was locked from the outside which complicated the efforts to control the flames.
A fire officer at the scene said that around 60-70 residents had to be evacuated from the building. The evacuation was complicated by the presence of central locks on some doors, which required forcible entry to ensure that no one remained inside. The fire, which rapidly spread from the fourth floor to other parts of the building, led to thick smoke filling the structure and creating hazardous conditions for residents trying to escape.
The firefighters worked tirelessly for an hour to bring the blaze under control. Initial investigations suggest a short circuit in the flat as the cause of the fire.
