Eight-year-old dies after explosion causes fire in house

Updated: 2024-09-05

Rajkot: An eight-year-old boy died, and his family members were injured when a fire broke out in their house in the Ganeshnagar area of Junagadh city late on Tuesday night.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the fire was caused by an explosion in their house, which was likely triggered by a spark in the refrigerator or a gas cylinder leak.

The boy, Datt, succumbed on Wednesday, while his parents, Vijay Katariya (32) and Manisha (27), and relative Kanji Katariya (60), are under treatment.

The victims were first taken to the Junagadh Civil Hospital but were shifted to Rajkot Civil Hospital for further treatment.

Residents of Kamdar Society, where the family lived, heard a blast late in the night. On rushing there, they saw that the house had suffered significant damage and smoke was billowing.

They were rushed to the hospital in the 108 emergency ambulance, and the fire brigade doused the flames.

The Junagadh city police will now conduct a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the blast.
