Major fire at factory in Najafgarh, 6 workers injured
Updated: 2024-12-28
New Delhi: A major fire broke out at a factory in Nangli Sakrawati, Najafgarh, leaving six workers injured. Preliminary investigations suggested that a gas cylinder blast triggered the fire, which quickly spread throughout the facility. The blast occurred due to a burst in one of the gas cylinder pipes that was connected to a large oven.
The factory workers were baking biscuits when the incident occurred. The injured were identified as Shivam (23), Amit (35), Amit Singh (26), Chandan (22), Jaipal (40) and Vasudev (50). They were undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.
A Delhi Fire Services official said that over 100 firefighters were sent to the spot to douse the blaze, which caused significant damage to the factory. He recalled that the department received information about the fire at 8.16 am, and five fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Later, 12 more tenders were deployed. Visuals from the scene show thick smoke billowing out of the factory.
The factory did not have a no-objection certificate from the fire department.
According to a fire official, the primary concern was the presence of cooking gas cylinders within the factory premises. “The storage of many cylinders inside the factory created a high risk of explosion, which could jeopardise the safety of our firefighters,” the official added.
