Cop tries to burn wife alive in Nepalgunj

NEPALGUNJ: A low-rung policeman has tried to set his wife on fire at Paraspur-8 in Nepalgunj on Tuesday night.
While the woman was rescued at the eleventh minute by neighbours, her inebriated husband follower (parichar) of the Industrial Security Force (ISF) under Armed Police Force (APF) has been taken under custody.
It has been learnt that Manoj Balmiki first thrashed his wife Amrita and subsequently attempted to set her on fire, while the rest of the family members were not home.
Thankfully, neighbours noticed the wrangle between husband and wife and rescued Amrita, District Police Office, Banke said.
According to police, Amrita had already fallen unconscious when her husband was about to burn her alive. She is now undergoing treatment at Bheri Zonal Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary police interrogation with Manoj has revealed that he used to beat up his wife — mother of an eight-year-old boy and a seven-month-old daughter — very often in the past as well.
The incident follows the footsteps of another similar case reported in Jaispur-1 of Nepalgunj two weeks ago. A man had reportedly set his sister-in-law and two nieces and fire at their own home.
A child was killed and other two had sustained serious burn injuries in the incident.
