Man burnt to death‚ 7 houses gutted in Solukhumbu fire

SOLUKHUMBU: A man in his mid 50s was burnt to death when a fire gutted a house in Nele Bazaar of Solukhumbu on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Kumar Singh Rai.
Police said that the body of Singh was retrieved from the house on Thursday afternoon.
According to the District Police Office, Solukhumbu, the blaze also engulfed seven houses.
The houses of Singh, Tara Basnet, Kanchi Sherpa and Bhim Maya Basnet were reduced to cinders.
According to police, they had to demolish the houses of Rajendra Basnet, Bal Kumar Rai and Raju Rai in order douse the fire that had broken out in a crowded settlement.
According to DSP Badri Bikram Thapa, properties worth around Rs. 300 million were gutted in the fire.
Thapa said that the cause behind the fire is still unknown. He said that the fire had erupted from the house of Singh.
It has been learnt that Singh, a paralysis patient, was trapped as he could not run away.
Thapa said that it took whole night for the security personnel and locals to take the fire under control.
Nele Bazaar is a business hub of the district.
