Girl killed in Mandaluyong City fire

A young girl was killed while up to 40 families lost their homes after a fire hit a residential area in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday afternoon.
The girl was left inside a rented three-story house in Barangay Mauway, radio dzBB’s Tuesday Niu reported.
“Nakita natin ang kinalalagyan na pwesto niya. Sa ngayon charred beyond recognition,” Fire Inspector Francia Embalsado of the Mandaluyong City Bureau of Fire Protection told dzBB’s Niu.
The dzBB report said the girl’s parents could not immediately give the go-signal to remove her remains from the area as they could not even bear to see her body.
Investigators are verifying information the girl came from school and went to sleep inside the house, and may have suffocated while the fire was in progress.
The fire started at about 1:23 p.m. and reached the fourth alarm before it was put out at 3:15 p.m.
At least 20 houses were destroyed, affecting some 40 families, the dzBB report quoted BFP arson investigators as saying.
Investigators also estimated the damage caused by the fire at P300,000 to P400,000. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
