House Fire: Family Left With Only Clothes On Their Backs

KUALA TERENGGANU, July 1 (Bernama) — Four members of a family were left with only the clothes on their back in a fire which destroyed their wooden house at Kampung Baru Tetambah, Manir here.
The fire broke out about 7.15 pm as they were waiting to break their fast.
One of the victims, Siti Mariam Jusoh, 26, said she was preparing the dishes for the breaking of fast, while her husband and their two children were outside the house, when she heard crackling sounds of fire.
“When I turned to check, I saw the middle part of the house on fire and quickly rushed out, while shouting for help.
“It happened so fast and in less than five minutes, the house was engulfed. We did not have time to salvage anything,” she said when met by reporters at the scene.
Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu Fire and rescue station head, Kamerul Bieza Mohd Kassim said three engines with 16 firemen rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.17 pm.
He said the house was completely gutted and the department was investigating the cause of the fire and losses incurred.
Terengganu Menteri Besar Terengganu Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, accompanied by wife, Toh Puan Halina Zakaria, visited the victims Tuerday and approved a RM40,000 allocation to build a new house for the family.
He said construction of the house would begin tomorrow and hoped it would be ready for the coming Hari Raya celebration.
