Soekarno-Hatta returns to normal after fire in Terminal 2
Updated: 2014-08-14-11:34
State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) says that the country’s main gateway, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Banten, just west of Jakarta, is operating normally following a fire at a fast food restaurant near Terminal 2F.
The fast food restaurant caught fire at around 2:40 a.m. on Thursday and the airport’s fire department was able to extinguish the blaze by 4:30 a.m.
AP II corporate secretary Daryanto said that the cause of fire remained unknown and the matter was being investigated by the police.
Departure and arrival activities at Terminal 2 were operating well, he said.
Officials from the company were continuing to clean up the area around the fast food restaurant; hence passengers were not able to enter the Terminal 2 check-in area from Gate 3.
“Terminal 2E’s Gate 3 will be opened as soon as possible after the cleaning is finished. Meanwhile, Terminal 2F’s Gate 4, which was closed previously due to the fire, has been open since 6 a.m.,” he said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
He added that passengers who wished to go to the check-in areas could enter through Terminal 2D’s Gate 1 and Gate 2 as well as Terminal 2F’s Gate 4. (nfo)
