A huge fire broke out early Monday morning at the Chatuchak Plaza shopping complex on Kampaengphet 2 Road, destroying 16 shopping stalls.
Fire fighters spent about half an hour extinguishing the flames. Damage was estimated to be about Bt5 million(156,150,000$:1THB=0.031230USD,14/09/08 rate).
The fire is suspected to have originated in Zone C of the mall between Soi 1 and Soi 2, a zone designated for selling home furniture. The flames spread quickly along the rooftops of the stalls.
Fire fighters quickly rushed to the scene to contain the blaze. There were no reports of casualties.
Police have dispatched a team of forensic police to inspect the area in order to determine the cause of the fire.
