72 families lose homes in Taguig fire
Updated: 2012-06-20-07:48
Some 72 families lost their homes after a fire razed a residential area near the Bicutan Market in Taguig City Tuesday noon.
Many of the affected families spent Tuesday night in a covered court but others tried to return to their homes, radio dzBB’s Sam Nielsen reported Wednesday.
No one was initially reported injured in the fire, which razed 27 residential and commercial structures in the North Daang Hari area in Bicutan in Taguig, the report said.
But the report said that of the 72 families affected, only 36 initially got assistance from the city government.
The Taguig City government had provided each affected family with groceries, five kilos of rice, blankets, and P4,000 cash.
Arson investigators suspect an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire, which destroyed P5 million in property.
Investigation showed the fire started at 11:30 a.m. and reached Task Force Bravo before it was placed under control at 12:35 p.m.
It snarled traffic along nearby roads, including the Bicutan Interchange and the stretch of road from C-5 to Bicutan. –KG, GMA News
