NEW DELHI: There was high drama after a fire broke out at a kohl factory behind the Jhandewalan temple on Saturday morning. Ten workers trapped in a room were rescued by firemen; three of them were admitted to a hospital with breathing problems.
The incident was reported from Block E of Jhandewalan Extension, which was teeming with devotees heading to the temple for Navaratra celebrations. Factory workers noticed flames escaping a room on the third floor where raw material was stored.
While the others managed to escape the building, workers at a corner room could not get out as the room next to it was on fire. They cried for help from the windows but no one could reach the floor. “We called for help for a few minutes. A few of my colleagues grew sick. Smoke filled the room, making it hard to breathe. Finally, the firemen broke open the windows to rescue us,” said Dilip Kumar, a worker.
