PUNE: State chief secretary Jayantkumar Banthiya on Saturday asked the district administration to put together files destroyed in the fire at Mantralaya on Thursday and send them to various departments within 15 days. He also asked all government offices to prepare lists of files and cases that were referred to Mantralaya for instructions and that were damaged in the blaze.
“The administration is initiating immediate steps to recover data destroyed in the fire,” district collector Vikas Deshmukh said at a news conference here on Saturday. He said, “It will be difficult to quantify the number of files damaged. The details can only be ascertained after every department prepares a list.”
Deshmukh spoke to reporters after a video conference conducted by Banthiya against the backdrop of the devastating fire.
“Damages are confined to some specific departments and offices on the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of Mantralaya. These were offices of the chief minister and deputy chief minister, offices of the departments of tribal development, environment, state excise and animal husbandry. We will recompile the damaged files on the basis of data available with us in our record rooms and scanned data available on servers.”
Deshmukh said the recovery of files will be taken up on three major fronts and citizens need not worry. Those who had submitted their applications in Mantralaya in the departments have been asked to resubmit the files along with the counterfoils issued to them while submitting the application. They can be submitted in centres at tehsil offices. A meeting of all heads of departments has been called on Sunday to decide the next action. The departments will have to submit daily updates.
