Septuagenarian Loses Home To Fire On Aidiladha Eve
Updated: 2014-10-05-12:00
DUNGUN, Oct 5 (Bernama) — Aidiladha merriment turned to despair for a septuagenarian when his house went up in flames in Hulu Dungun here last night.
Che Osman Ahmad, 74, was preparing lemang with his three children at one of their houses when an explosion ripped through his house in nearby Kampung Kuala Jengai.
Accompanied by the children, Che Osman rushed to the house to salvage whatever they could.
“However, we were only able to grab several important documents and rush out of the premises before the fire engulfed the house.
“Luckily, no one was injured,” he told Bernama today, estimating the damage at RM50,000.
He said as the nearest fire and rescue department was located in Bandar Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, about 50km away, the house was destroyed before firemen could arrive at the scene.
Che Osman said his wife, Siti Jaharah Wok, 64, was cooking alone in the kitchen when the incident happened.
He said she dashed out to safety before the fire spread.
“I believe the fire was caused by short-circuit…so for now, I will be staying temporarily with my children,” he added.
