Fire razes Talisay home

CEBU, Philippines – A midday fire razed close to half-a-million pesos worth of property inside a single-concrete house in Barangay San Roque, Talisay City yesterday.
The Talisay City fire department received the alarm at around 12:02 p.m. and the incident was declared fire out in less than an hour.
No one was reported injured in the fire but house owner Joel Muñoz, 56, said he did not save much of his appliances and things after seeing the fire easily spread inside the house.
Muñoz, who is a Civil Security Unit employee at the Capitol, said the fire started from the kitchen where he was cooking.
“Nagluto ra gyud ko unya naay nanawag sa akong cellphone. Akong gibiyaan ang akong giluto kadali aron motubag ko sa tawag. Nakalimtan man nako ang akong giluto. Mao ra gyud to ang hinungdan,” Muñoz said.
(I was cooking in the kitchen when someone called me through phone. I had to leave the kitchen to answer the call. I then forgot I was cooking; that’s how it began.)
City Councilor Danilo Caballero, chairman of the Committee on Public Safety and Order, was the first local official to respond to the scene.
Caballero said he will be asking Mayor Johnny De los Reyes to extend financial assistance to the fire victim. — Garry B. Lao (FREEMAN)
