Flights were operating normally today after a fire broke out inside souvenir shops overnight at Ubon Ratchathani airport.
The blaze broke out in shops selling silk clothing and scented candles around 2am Friday. Flames spread quickly and caused heavy damage, including a baggage X-ray machine.
Firefighters using six fire trucks put off the fire in about an hour.
Pol Maj Gen Thawatchai Nilanuch, commander of Ubon Ratchathani police, inspected the scene before the arrival of forensic officers.
He suspected that the fire caused by an electrical circuit as there was noise indicating the electricity system shut down.
Airport director Nisit Sombat said damages would be assessed later but there was no cancellation of inbound and outbound flights scheduled for today.
The airport serves a total of 22 flights a day from 6am to 10pm.
While the airport would not close, passenger service would be relocated to the arrivals area, he said.
