Updated: 2014-10-18-09:26
Four people – one of them a 96-year-old woman – were killed in a fire that hit their house in San Nicolas town in Ilocos Norte province at midnight Friday.
The fire hit the house of the Capalungan family, killing Rozalinda Capalungan, 96; her son Inocencio; and Inocencio’s children aged 5 and 10, GMA News stringer Dennis Alipio reported.
Inocencio and his children were hugging each other and may have tried but failed to escape from the burning house, the report said.
Citing initial findings of the Bureau of Fire Protection, the report said the fire started at the room of Rozalinda, who is believed to light candles for her evening prayers.
The fire spread quickly as the house was made of light materials, and there were school supplies and computer units inside the house.
The fire lasted nearly an hour.
