Updated: 2014-10-15-08:22
A man died after the shop-house in which he was sleeping caught fire in Cilandak, South Jakarta early on Tuesday.
Latif, 25, was found dead with his body badly burned. The deceased was brought to Fatmawati General Hospital for an autopsy.
Cilandak Police chief Comr. Sungkono said that besides the victim, five other workers had also been sleeping on the top and bottom floors of the building, but they woke up because they choked on the smoke.
“When they ran out of the building through the front door, witnesses saw that the fire was getting strong,” he said.
The fire was eventually extinguished by seven fire trucks from the South Jakarta Fire and Natural Disaster Agency in about one hour.
Police were still questioning the five workers for their investigation into the incident at the time of writing.
