Mother, 2 kids burnt alive in house fire

Two children aged six months and three years and their mother were brunt alive, while another boy sustained severe burn injuries in a fire at their house in Tonk’s Niwai area on Thursday night. The police suspect that the woman might have committed suicide after setting her three children afire. Police said the investigation is undergoing to ascertain the cause of fire.
According to the police, the incident took place in Jhilay village. “The woman, Manju Devi (35), and her three sons Mohit (6 months), Mahesh (3) and Surendra (5) were sleeping in a room, while her husband was sleeping outside in the courtyard,” said CO, Niwai Sunil Kumar.
The officer said that the husband suddenly heard cries for help following which he rushed inside. “He saw his wife and three children engulfed in flames. He tried to douse the fire and sustained minor burns in the attempt. The neighbours also rushed to the house. The woman and the children were rushed to a hospital where doctors declared Manju, Mohit and Mahesh dead. Surendra has also sustained 50% burn injuries. He was referred to SMS Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be critical,” said the officer.
A police officer said that a verbal spat had taken place between the woman and her husband. “The possibility of the woman committing suicide after setting her three children on fire is not being ruled out,” said the officer.
