Insurgents Set Fire To Two Administration Offices In Pattani
Updated: 2014-10-28-12:00
PATTANI, Oct 28 (Bernama) — Insurgents set fire to two sub-district administration offices in Nongchik district here today after the authorities found out about their initial plan to burn down a school in the district.
The 4th Division Army Commander Lt Gen Prakarn Chollayuth said:
“We received a tip-off earlier that a group of insurgents was heading to the school, but when they arrived, many village security guards were already there, securing the area, so they changed their target.”
The two burnt premises were the sub-district administration offices of Donrak and Pulut Puyo.
Meanwhile, Nongchik district police chief Pol Col Manit Yimsai, said the fire was set simultaneously to the two premises at 11.30 pm.
At Dorak sub-district administration office, the armed insurgents also tied the hands and legs of three security guards on duty before breaking the glass window of the office and set the place on fire, he said.
Manit said police also believed that at least 10 suspects were present at each location.
He said their targets were rooms full of official documents and computers.
Five cars were also damaged in the fire.
Police are in the midst of investigating whether the suspects were connected to the group that torched six schools in Pattani on Oct 12.
