Disabled Hexagenarian Suffocates To Death In Fire

IPOH, Nov 12 (Bernama) — A disabled hexagenarian died of suffocation from smoke in a fire that broke out at his house in Kampung Sungai Korok, Parit, about 36 km from here, this morning.
The one-legged Zainal Azmi Abu Hassan, 63, died at the scene in the mishap which occurred at 5.20 am.
Central Perak deputy police chief DSP Leong Ah Kow, when contacted, said the man was asleep when the fire broke out, allegedly due to a short circuit.
He said 80 per cent of the double storey half-wooden half-brick house were destroyed by the blaze and losses were estimated at RM40,000.
Meanwhile, Parit fire and rescue station chief Asmahisham Abdul Aziz said two fire engines and 18 firefighters were rushed to the scene after receiving the report about the fire at 5.25 am.
“The team took 55 minutes to put out the fire completely at 6.30 am,” he said.
The body of the disabled man was taken to Changkat Melintang Hospital for post mortem.
