NEPALGUNJ: More than 80 houses were gutted when Ramuwapur village of Indrapur VDC in Banke was engulfed in fire today, killing one man and leaving three women injured. According to acting CDO Chakrapani Pandey, Bhallar Kahar (70) died in the inferno while three injured women are under treatment at the Nepalgunj Hospital.
Strong winds fanned the fire and it had not come under control till late evening due to lack of fire brigade and water, Pandey informed, adding that efforts to extinguish the blaze were underway. Forty houses were gutted when fire engulfed Jamuniya of Banke’s Matehiya.
Nepali Army and Nepal Police had been deployed to extinguish the fire. Banke DSP Uday Tamang said the fire had gutted several houses due to lack of water and fire brigade. Blaze has destroyed grains, clothes and utensils at Matehiya. Nepal Police, APF, NA and Red Cross Society have reached the incident to bring the flames under control.

KATHMANDU: The Army Wives’ Association on Friday distributed relief materials, including rice, sugar and biscuit, to fire victims of Siraha district, said the Nepali Army’s Directorate of Public Relations. More than 461 houses were gutted in Aurahi VDC on May 15.
