KATHMANDU: Two separate residential fires were reported in the Kathmandu Valley on Friday. Properties worth Rs 2.4 million were gutted when inferno broke at a restaurant and meat shop of Khin Bahadur Sunuwar in Talsikhel, Lalitpur. In another incident, property worth over Rs 500,000 was reduced to ashes when fire engulfed the house of Prema Sherpa in Jorpati. According to police, short circuit had caused the fire in both the instances. There were no injuries in the incidents.
Suspicious death
KATHMANDU: Police on Friday arrested Madan Rawal (25) of Mugu on the suspicion of his involvement in the death of his 19-year-old wife Sushila Karki in Swoyambhu. According to Rawal, Sushila had died while he was taking her to Bir Hospital for treatment after she tried to commit suicide by hanging. Police officials informed that Madan had not bothered to inform police before taking her to the hospital. Police said an investigation was under way to establish whether it was a suicide or murder.
