Updated: 2014-12-02-12:28
Just as the Christmas shopping season is expected to ramp up, a fire razed a shopping center in Polomolok in South Cotabato early Monday.
Some P20 million in property was destroyed in the fire, GMA General Santos’ Jennifer Solis reported on GMA News TV’s “Balita Pilipinas Ngayon.”
No one was initially reported injured in the fire, which is considered the biggest to hit the province so far this year.
The fire razed the parts of the shopping center that contained grocery items, textiles and plastic wares, as well as the food court.
Investigation showed the fire, which reached the third alarm, started past 5 a.m.
Polomolok fire marshal Senior Inspector Reginald Legaste said they are still determining what caused the fire.
In the meantime, the Bureau of Fire Protection reminded the public to keep an eye on cooking fires and to watch out for electrical short circuits involving Christmas lights.
