Fire engulfs illegal diesel depot in Galsi

More than two bighas of paddy field have been reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in an illegal diesel depot in Goligram in Galsi police station limits here on Wednesday morning.
“The fire broke out around 9am and it could be doused only after three hours. The owner of the diesel depot, Paru Choudhury, is absconding. We are trying to nab him. However, there has not been any casualty,” said Burdwan police superintendent SMH Meerza.
CPM district secretary of Burdwan Amal Haldar told TOI that a section of oil tankers were coming to these illegal depots from the depots of Indian Oil Corporation , Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum at Rajbandh in Panagarh. He also said that the Burdwan police were hand in gloves with the illegal oil pilferage trade.
