DADELDHURA: Property worth more than Rs 1 billion was damaged after a fire burnt down more than one dozen shops in Bagkhor of Dadeldhura headquarters yesterday night.
An electric short circuit is said to have caused the fire at Shuvam Tailoring Centre of Baghkhor at midnight.
Fire engines from Baitadi and Doti were called after a firefighter from Dadeldhura could not bring the blaze under control. According to Dadeldhura CDO Shivraj Joshi, dozers had been deployed to pull down houses as the firefighters could not extinguish the fire.
Local trader Mahesh Bhatta, said the fire that started from Shuvam Tailoring Centre turned into an inferno after it spread to adjoining Mahakali Trade and Suppliers. Bhatta said the fire engines arrived late and that had caused massive loss of property. It is reported that the fire reduced more than eight shops to ashes.
The inferno was brought under control after 14 hours with the joint effort of firefighters, Nepali Army personnel, Nepal Police, and locals, said CDO Joshi. Preliminary investigation shows that property worth more than Rs 1 billion was destroyed. However, no human casualty was reported – See more at: http://www.thehimalayantimes.com/fullNews.php?headline=Property+worth++billion+rupees+gutted+&NewsID=439684#sthash.DpFC6rAj.dpuf
