Fire Destroys 13 Buses In Kota Tinggi

JOHOR BAHARU, Jan 5 (Bernama) — A total of 13 buses, including a school bus, were destroyed in a fire at a bus depot on Jalan Kota Kecil, Kota Tinggi, early this morning which incurred losses estimated to be worth RM600,000.
Kota Tinggi Fire and Rescue operations commander Ahmad Amat said the 4am incident was realised by a passer-by in the area.
“Of the 13 buses burnt, 12 were factory buses. Seven buses were damaged in the fire while flames only affected the windows, rear and front of the other buses.
“There were no victims in the fire,” he told Bernama here today.
He said two fire engines and 10 firemen were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call from the public at 4.26am.
“We took almost an hour to extinguish the flames,” he said, adding the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
Meanwhile, bus owner Gaiganesh Ramakrishnan, 35, when contacted, said he was informed of the incident by a patrol policeman who called him at about 4am.
Gaiganesh, who lives in Taman Kota Jaya, Kota Tinggi, said the buses, which were rented out, had been owned by his family for the past 40 years.
