Ten more vehicles have been set on fire in Dhaka leaving three people in hospital with burns amid the BNP-sponsored transport blockade across Bangladesh.

The trio were admitted at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) after they sustained burn injuries in two separate incidents of arson on Friday night.

A ‘Sohan Paribahan’ bus, which runs on Gabtoli-Kamrangirchar route, was set alight at Mohammadpur leaving passengers Abdul Gafur, 30, and Mizanur Rahman, 32, injured.

DMCH police outpost Inspector Mozammel Haque said Gafur’s both legs and Rahman’s knees and hands were burned.

Nearly at the same time, car driver Abul Kalam was also admitted at the burns unit at DMCH with severe burns.

The car’s owner, Raju Ahmed, told reporters that Kalam got burned after miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on the car, parked in front of retail superstore Agora at Moghbazar.

Inspector Haque said Kalam suffered burns on his face and chest.

Earlier, Fire Service officials said a bus and a covered van were torched at Tejgaon, a private car at Postogola, a pickup van at Dholaikhal, and four buses were set ablaze at Kalsi Road and near Police Staff College at Mirpur, Bijoynagar and in front of Modhumita Cinema Hall at Motijheel.

Control room operator Md Farhaduzzman said no-one had been injured in the fires that were put out by firefighters right away.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia called her supporters to enforce the blockade on Jan 5, the first anniversary of the last general election it had sat out.

Since then, arson attacks had been reported on a regular basis in the capital.

Six buses were torched on Tuesday while four more were set ablaze the following day. Three buses were set on fire Thursday.
