Felda Settler’s Home Destroyed By Fire

GEMAS, Jan 23 (Bernama) — A semi-permanent house owned by a settler in Felda Bukit Rokan, here, was destroyed in a fire this afternoon.
Gemas Fire and Rescue Station senior officer II, Abu Omar Abdullah said 11 firemen and two fire-engines from Gemas and Bahau rushed to the scene of the fire which broke out 12.05pm.
“When we arrived at the scene, the fire had been put under control by the residents. It was completely put out by the firemen within 10 minutes. However, the house in which eight family members lived, was totally destroyed.
The owner of the house, B. Balaraman, 67, was at his smallholding while his wife and daughter-in-law who were at home at the time managed to escape the fire.
A car and motorcycle belonging to Balaraman were also destroyed in the fire. The losses were estimated at RM150,000.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
