KATHMANDU: Police reported two cases of electric short circuit-induced fire in Kathmandu Valley on Saturday and Sunday.
An eatery named Alpine Hotel in KMC-29, being operated by Kedar Neupane (25) from Lishankhu-9 of Sindhupalchok, had caught fire today.
The fire destroyed property worth Rs 100,000, police said.
In another case, valuables worth Rs 104,000 including crops and clothes were gutted in the fire at the house of Shiva Prasad Suku Bhatta (28) in Nangkhel, Suryabinayak Municipality-9 of Bhaktapur on Saturday.
The house had caught fire while someone in the family was plugging a heater, police said.
Meanwhile, Bhatta was suffocated due to smoke while extinguishing the fire and is undergoing treatment at the Bhaktapur Hospital.
Later, fire engines assisted by police and locals had contained the fire.
Further investigation is underway.
