A fire, which broke out on the ground floor of Hotel Broadway at Serangoon Road at 5.10pm on Sunday, has been put out. Two men have been sent to hospital.

SINGAPORE: A fire broke out on the ground floor of Hotel Broadway at Serangoon Road at about 5.10pm on Sunday (Jan 25).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said two fire engines, two red rhinos, one ambulance and one support vehicle were dispatched to the scene.

According to SCDF, the fire started in the kitchen of a restaurant and was put out in 10 minutes using two water jets.

It said two men were sent to hospital for smoke inhalation. One was a 49-year-old restaurant staff who was sent to the Singapore General Hospital, while the 65-year-old man was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The SCDF said it was able to respond quickly because it had sent a convoy that was headed for an event at Burmah Road – the launch of a project aimed at engaging foreign workers.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
