The death toll from the predawn fire that hit a residential area in Makati City Wednesday rose to two after the body of another fatality was found.
Firefighters found the remains of Veneranda Padilla inside her three-story house, radio dzBB’s Sam Nielsen reported.
Still missing are elderly couple Jose and Dolores Padilla, in-laws of Veneranda, the report said.
The fire started at about 5 a.m. at Singkamas village and reached Task Force Charlie before it was placed under control at 9:30 a.m.
Earlier, another relative, Gregorio Renato, died in the fire. He was declared dead on arrival at the Manila Central University Hospital.
Arson investigators are verifying information the fire may have stemmed from an electrical short circuit.
They also said they are looking into the possibility Renato, an electrician, was trying to fix an electrical connection when an explosion occurred and triggered the fire. –KG, GMA News
