Updated: 2014-12-25-12:55

Three siblings have suffered burns in Dhaka’s Kernaiganj area, while another four in Gabtoli were injured in a fire at a slum, caused by stoves.

They have been admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospitals (DMCH), said inspector Mozammel Haque of the hospital’s police outpost.

Siblings Md Shahin, 35, Taslima Akter, 15 and ‘Asiya’, 17, were injured when their home at Keraniganj caught fire around 5am on Thursday.

Fire Service Control Room official Brojen Kumar Sarkar said no one had reported the incident to them.

“The gas knob of the stove was turned on and the house went up in flames the moment someone tried to light a fire,” he said.

On Wednesday night, four, including women and children, were injured in a fire at a slum in Gabtoli area, caused by a stove.

The injured are ‘Shanta’, 20, her daughter Bristhy Aktar, 3, ‘Rubel’, 12 and Abdul Gani, 43.

Fire service official Sarkar said that the locals had put out the fire.

According to DMCH police post Inspector Haque, the fire, from a gas-stove, broke out around 9:30pm Wednesday in the slum.

“Shanta has suffered 95 percent burns while Rubel 58. The other two have 30 percent burns,” he said.
