1 child dies in Makati fire, sister critical at hospital

A three-year-old boy died while his sister is in critical condition after they and three cousins were trapped in a fire that razed their house in Makati City on Christmas Day.
The fire at Barangay Tejeros was believed caused by a candle that left unattended and had toppled, GMA News’ Micaela Papa reported on “24 Oras” Friday.
Initial investigation showed the fire started at about 10 p.m., when the children were already asleep.
“Di ko naman napansin na natumba nila ang kandila. Biglang lumiyab ang bahay na tinitirhan namin, hindi ko naligtas,” said Reianne Medrano, whose son Carlo, 3, died in the fire.
Carlo died Friday afternoon after 80 percent of his body was burned.
His sister Nicole, just 29 days old, was at the intensive care unit of Sta. Ana Hospital. She suffered burns in 70 percent of her body.
Their cousin Reden Medrano, 4, is under observation. Two more cousins – Darwin Medrano, 6, and Andrea Medrano, 14 months, were discharged from the hospital.
Reianne said she was with the children when the fire started but the five children were trapped.
Her problem now is how to raise money for the burial and medical expenses as she has not yet received her salary for delivering newspapers. — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
