Updated: 2015-02-04 12:00
KUANTAN, Feb 4 (Bernama) — An eight-year-old girl was burnt to death while her elder sister sustained multiple burns on the head and body when their house caught fire near Kuala Lipis early today.
Nur Ain Nadirah Roslan died at the scene of the blaze in Kampung Jeram Batu about 2am, while Nur Masitah, 10, who sustained serious injuries is fighting for her life at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Lipis police chief Supt Abdul Razak Hassan said Nur Ain Nadirah was asleep with Nur Masitah and another sister, Rozitah, 13, in a room at the rear of the house while their mother, Noraini Sulaiman, 39, was in another room when the fire broke out.
“Upon spotting the fire, the siblings’ father, Roslan Abdul Rahman, 42, who was asleep in a van in front of the house, broke down the door of the house to rescue his family.
“At the same time, Rozitah managed escape from the room while Nur Masitah was saved in the nick of time by Noraini.
Noraini later tried to rescue Nur Ain Nadirah but failed as her daughter was trapped by a pillar of the house pillar which fell on her,” he told Bernama here today.
He said the victim’s body was sent to the Lipis Hospital and later laid to rest in Kampung Temau, Dong about noon.
