Sundry Shop Storing Fireworks, Crackers Razed In Fire

BUTTERWORTH, Feb 8 (Bernama) — A sundry shop at the Emas Apartments here, which had stored various types of fireworks believed to be sold during the Chinese New Year, was razed in a fire here at midnight Saturday night.
Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) district police chief, ACP Abdul Rahman Ibrahim, said in three motorcycles parked in front of the shop were also destroyed.
The sundry shop, on the ground floor of the five-storey building, belonged to a 51-year-old businessman, he said.
“Fire personnel found a room in the shop where a variety of fireworks and firecrackers were stored.
“Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and the amount of losses incurred,” Abdul Rahman said here today.
Meanwhile, he said a house in Jalan Permatang Binjai, here was destroyed in a fire at 1.52 pm Sunday.
The owner had fled the scene upon realising there was a fire in the kitchen of the two-storey wooden house, he said.
