Blaze tears through warehouse in Xiamen
Updated: 2015-02-11-12:00

On February 9th, a fire broke out at an open air warehouse near Xinglin Bridge in Jimei District. The fire lasted for about 3 hours from around 4:54pm, and nearly half of the sky above the warehouse was blanketed in black smoke.

The fire took place behind a construction site, which destroyed nearby telephone poles and a car was left in scraps.

According to witnesses, the warehouse was formerly used as a workshop, where a large stock of cold-proof materials had been stored.

About 20 fire fighting trucks and about 100 fire fighters were deployed to extinguish the fire, which was under control by around 5:22pm and put out at around 7:40pm.

No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire accident is still under investigation.

On December 18th last year, a big fire broke out in two adjacent auto 4S shops near the Longshanqiao BRT Station. The fire left one maintenance worker dead and destroyed over 60 new cars.

According to the Xiamen Fire Department, fire incidents usually occur more frequently in dry weather, especially under current windy winter conditions, and most of the indoor fire incidents were caused by careless residents who forgot to turn off power supply’s in their homes.

Discarded cigarette butts are also among the main causes of fires.
