Seven people sustained burn injuries when piped natural gas (PNG) leaked during repairs and caught fire near Ranna Park in Ghatlodia on Saturday evening. Two EMRI 108 ambulances shifted the affected people to Sola Civil Hospital and a nearby private hospital for treatment. One of the technicians is reported to be under observation, said officials.
According to EMRI officials, they received a report at 6:45 pm about someone getting burnt in New Umiya Vijay Society behind Ranna Park in Ghatlodia. Local residents said that people of some houses to which the PNG was supplied by a private firm, had reported a gas leak. A team from the company had come to the area and had started repairs when an accidental spark ignited the gas and caused a fireball that left four of the technicians and three local people injured. The local people were assisting the technicians.
The affected persons have been identified as Hansraj, 35; Lalit, 34; Pramod Shidke, 27; Haresh Yadav, 21; Dipak Dave, 45; and Rajesh Panchal, 35. The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) said that they have not received any call regarding the fire at Ghatlodia.
In another incident of fire, the RTO office near Subhash Bridge reported a blaze in vehicles parked on its premises. According to AFES officials, the fire broke out in the morning and more than 15 vehicles were charred.
