A fire in Gulshan’s IK Tower has gutted a section of BBC Media Action’s Dhaka office.
Fire Service Control Room’s officer in charge Enayet Hossain said the fire broke out in the BBC office located on the sixth floor of the building around 8:45am on Sunday.
Five units of the fire service worked for an hour to put out the fire.
“A large section of BBC’s 9,000 square feet office was gutted in the fire. Furniture, laptops and other equipment were burned,” he said.
BBC Media Action is BBC’s international development charity which works on various public awareness issues.
Prince Eid-E-Amin Chowdhury, Media and Public Relations Manager, told bdnews24.com that they evacuated the office after seeing smoke and called the fire service.
There were no casualties.
“We are initially suspecting that the fire has been caused by an electrical short circuit.”
Hossain said, “A committee has been formed by the fire service to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the damage.”
Away in Eskaton, a 17-storey under-construction building caught fire around 9am.
Three units of the fire service worked for around half an hour to control the fire. No casualties were reported.
