Three TNB Workers Injured In Substation Fire

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) — Three technical workers of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) were seriously hurt after its substation went up in flames in Taman Sri Jati, Old Klang Road, here, last night.
The victims were Mohd Zaidi Mohd Shariff, 35, Mohd Ruzairi Ghazali, 34, and Norizan Abdullah, 59.
The fire at the substation at the Sri Jati 2 condominium, Jalan Sri Jati 1, Taman Sri Jati, here, was caused by an explosion involving an electrical component, at 10.55pm.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman said a flashover from the burning component struck the three workers while they were carrying out maintenance work.
“Losses were estimated at RM80,000. The three victims were sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM). Two were then transferred to the Prince Court Medical Centre,” he told Bernama here, today.
Meanwhile, TNB, in a statement, said, the company would ensure that the three workers would receive the best treatment at the hospitals.
It said aid and facilities needed by their families would be given during their treatments.
TNB Distribution Division general manager Datuk Ir Lim Yew Soon said the incident took place during a resumption of supply after the completion of a changing of switches.
“The three workers were seriously injured when a flashover took place during a resumption of supply after the completion of a changing of switches at the substation in Old Klang Road,” he said.
He said investigation on the incident was still ongoing.
