Twelve units of the fire fighters worked for about an hour and put out the fire around 12:30pm, said Fire Service Control Room Officer Enayet Hossain.
Fire service officials could not immediately identify the source of the fire.
The fire gutted about 50 shanties, said Sher-e-Bangla Police Station OC GG Biswas.
