Three persons died and one sustained severe injuries after fire broke out at a pharmaceutical plant on Monday evening in Luna village of Padra Taluka. The fire was doused only by the early hours on Tuesday.
The fire at Shiva Pharmachem Limited was caused after blast in one of its reactors. Following the incident, the city fire brigade rushed to the spot and carried out an operation to extinguish the fire and rescue workers. The fire brigade took around five hours to extinguish the fire.
Three persons who worked at the factory as fitters died in the incident. The deceased were identified as Jagdish Gohil, Jatin Patel and Bharat Parmar. “While Gohil’s body was recovered on Monday night, Patel and Parmar’s bodies were recovered on Tuesday afternoon. Another employee, Dinesh Chavda, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in the city. Three others sustained minor injuries,” said Padra police inspector M K Gurjar.
“The fire occurred around 7.30 pm. It was a tough operation, as there were inflammable chemicals at the spot. There were seven persons at the spot during the explosion. We had to stop the flow of water mixed with inflammable chemicals, as there was a possibility of fire spreading towards other companies in its vicinity through the drainage channel,” said fair officer Parth Brahmbhatt.
