Updated: 2012-11-29-10:36
BELURAN (Sabah), Nov 29 (Bernama) — A woman and her two young daughters were burnt to death in a fire at a furniture and equipment shop in this town last night, according to the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station.
The burnt bodies of Siti Jainah Ajak, 39, Siti Aznizah Hussin, nine, and Siti Azikah Hussin, three, were found in an embrace in a bathroom on the top floor of the two-storey shophouse where the family lived, said Sandakan Fire and Rescue chief Jemishin Ujin.
They were apparently trapped in the shophouse which had steel grilles when the fire, which started on the ground floor at about 9 pm, spread quickly, he said.
Siti Jainah’s husband, Hussin Ismail, and their son, Mohd Aznizam, 11, were not at home during the fire, he added.
Jemishin said the Fire and Rescue Station sent a fire truck with four firemen from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station after being summoned at about 9 pm.
