Some two residents were killed and 250 homes were gutted in a Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon City fire that started at 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, dzBB radio’s James Agustin reported.

The fire alarm reached Task Force Delta, and was controlled at 1:15 a.m., Wednesday. The fire was finally put out at 3:55 a.m.

A fatality was identified as Virgina Ytac, 62. The other victim was identified only as Lolo Erespe, 80.

According to Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region director Sr. Supt. Sergio Soriano Jr., the fire started from a home’s faulty electrical wiring.

The BFP estimated property damage at P3 million, with 500 families affected.

Soriano added that four firemen were injured fighting the fire, among them Eden Santos, who took a blow to the head from a fire hose.

Another injured fireman was Michael Tubalinal, who was smacked across the forehead when residents attacked him.

Volunteer firefighters had to withdrew from the area after residents started pelting them with rocks, breaking a fire truck’s windshield.
