Forest fire near Muara-Tutong Highway

A MAJOR forest fire occurred last Saturday morning at Muara-Tutong Highway opposite Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) campus.
The fire, which occurred around 11am, caused thick smoke to rise from the blazing forest.
Firefighters and four fire engines from Rimba, Berakas and Bandar Seri Begawan fire stations rushed to the scene. Also present were a team of firefighter recruits, who provided manpower support.
The operation was led by Assistant Superintendent Fire and Rescue (ASFR) Noor Aflan bin Awang Kachi, Deputy Commanding Officer of Operation ‘C’ command.
Due to the thick smoke, police personnel were also present to direct motorists using the highway.
The fire was fully extinguished at 4pm.
