‘Overcharged flashlight causes fire’, house razed
Updated: 2015-05-03-12:00
An overcharged flashlight allegedly sparked fire and burned down a house in Barangay Corte, Carmen, Cebu last Friday.
The house of Hermito Pasana, 44, was totally destroyed by the 10 a.m. blaze.
Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident.
Carmen police reportedly received a call from a concerned citizen informing them about a working fire in Sitio Kanangkaan.
The policemen immediately coordinated with the personnel of Carmen Fire Station and proceeded to the fire scene.
Fire Officer 1 Edizar Garcia said they had a hard time reaching the burning house as it was located at a mountainous area.
“Di makalahos og saka among firetruck. Maong nangayo mi og assistance sa pulis to check the fire scene,” he said.
According to the police, residents in the area helped put out the fire.
As per investigation, a neighbor of Pasana disclosed that they heard an explosion inside Pasana’s house prior to the fire.
Garcia said an unplugged flashlight “made in China,” which was left overcharged, caused the fire.
Pasana’s house, which was made of light materials, was engulfed in flames and razed. The damage was pegged at P4,500.
Garcia reminded the public to avoid using substandard products and instead buy licensed ones approved by the trade department.
He further advised on staying vigilant when charging electronic gadgets and to not leave them unattended.
“Di g’yud mokompyansa especially if ang product made in China. Unya kon mag-charge gani, di g’yud biyaan. Mao na kasagaran maka-trigger sa fire,” the fire officer said.
