15 shanties gutted, kid injured in Sec 51 blaze
Updated: 2015-05-04-01:39

A three-year-old child reportedly sustained burn injuries after fire broke out in 15 shanties near Kendriya Vihar in Sector 51 on Sunday evening. Police said the fire broke out after a mini LPG cylinder burst.

DSP Raj Kumar Mishra, who reached the spot with his team, however said, that they could not trace the child. “Locals told us that a three-year-old boy sustained burn injuries. But we checked up with the city hospitals and could not trace him or his family,” Mishra said.

Locals said the fire tenders reached an hour and 45 minutes late. Until then nearly 15 shanties had gutted in fire. Mishra said, “We have ordered a probe to establish the cause of delay. The team told us that they were stuck in a traffic jam but the truth will come out.”

Prima facie it appeared that the fire was caused by a cylinder blast, he said. A probe has been ordered to establish the exact cause.

According to eyewitnesses, after a cylinder blast in a shanty, neighbouring shanties caught fire within minutes. Locals informed the police immediately but before the fire tenders arrived, cops reached the spot and doused the fire.
